Te Arai Links – New Zealand’s Coastal Golf Paradise

If golf in New Zealand had a crown, Te Arai Links would gleam brightly upon it. Perched on the pristine east coast less than a 90-minute drive north of Auckland, this coastal masterpiece has quickly cemented itself among the top public-access golf courses in the world. Combining architectural brilliance with world-class service and breathtaking scenery, Te Arai Links offers an unforgettable experience for golfers of all levels, and for many, it’s a journey worth building an entire New Zealand holiday around.

Recently, Anton, one of our Fine Tours members, experienced a round at Te Arai Links’ South Course, and his reflections perfectly capture the magic of this remarkable destination.

The Experience: World-Class from Start to Finish

From the moment Anton arrived, the tone was set by impeccable service and a welcoming atmosphere. “The staff were incredible, super helpful, genuinely warm, and went above and beyond,” he shared. “Customer service was next level.”

The South Course itself was in pristine condition. With immaculately manicured fairways and rolling greens that blend seamlessly into the natural landscape, every swing felt like a privilege. “You could barely tell where the greens ended and the fairways began,” Anton noted, describing the quality of the turf as some of the finest he’s ever played on.

And when the round was done, Rick’s Grill and the putting area offered the perfect places to unwind, reflect, and soak in the coastal views. Whether it’s a refreshing drink, a hearty meal, or simply a moment to breathe in the sea air, Te Arai’s post-round atmosphere is as exceptional as the golf itself.

Why Te Arai Links Belongs on Every Golfer’s Bucket List

Te Arai Links isn’t just a golf course, it’s a destination. Designed with playability, creativity, and connection to nature in mind, the course is a joy to explore. Golfers can shape shots in a hundred different ways, using the natural mounds and contours of the greens to test both skill and imagination.

Anton describes it best: “It’s an amazing, beautiful, and special experience, a must-do for anyone passionate about golf.”

The complex features two distinct courses, the North and South, each offering a unique take on coastal golf design. For travellers planning a golfing holiday, Anton strongly recommends staying at least one night to experience both.

Memorable Moments on the Course

Every round at Te Arai Links holds its share of unforgettable moments. For Anton, birdieing the 5th hole was a highlight, but so too was the simple joy of stepping into the members’ lounge, a space that exudes exclusivity and elegance.

The combination of panoramic ocean views, creative course design, and the gentle rhythm of walking the fairways makes Te Arai Links more than just a game. It’s an experience that stays with you long after you’ve left the 18th green.
