Experience of the Week: Matakauri Lodge in Queenstown

Matakauri Lodge, Queenstown

What you will Experience?

This is a sumptuous lodge experience you won't forget in a hurry. Nestled at the foot of the alps on the very edge of Queenstown, Matakauri Lodge is a relaxing alpine retreat. With the panoramic views of the lake and mountains you'll feel dwarfed by the sheer scale of the surrounding landscape.

There's really no reason to leave this plush, luxuriously furnished oasis. Each room offers a private porch, open fireplace, sitting area and bathroom. If you do leave your room you can:

Take a dip in the heated infinity pool and jacuzzi
Work out in the fitness centre with floor-to-ceiling views. (You’ll struggle to go to a normal gym after this!)
Visit the wellness spa for a selection of holistic treatments
Relax in one of several well-appointed living rooms.

Okay, so you probably should leave your room. But you definitely don't need to leave the lodge! All food is provided and the cuisine is world class, fresh and modern. What more could you want in a luxury lodge experience?

Fine dining, Matakauri Lodge, Queenstown

Where is it located?

Matakauri Lodge is located only 7-minutes’ from the adventure capital of Queenstown and 20-minutes from Queenstown International airport on the scenic Glenorchy Road, which follows the edge of Lake Wakatipu.

Who would enjoy this?

Looking for a place to luxuriate and de-stress? This five-star accommodation is a great spot for couples to unwind and share true "quality time". Great spot for families who are coming for a ski holiday and looking for that European chalet feel.

Fine tours Factoid?

The lodge is situated in between Queenstown and Glenorchy and the Glenorchy Road is one of the most scenic drives you’ll experience in New Zealand. In pre-European days, Glenorchy was a ‘summer camp’ for Maori on their way to the rivers to find pounamu (Jade). European settlers arrived to graze sheep in the 1860’s.
