Waiheke Island - as recommended by the New York Times

The New York Times listed Waiheke Island as one of 'The 46 Places to Go in 2013' and its a place that should be part of any Auckland visit.

Though only a short ferry ride from Auckland, you leave the city behind and enter an island paradise; with award winning vineyards, beaches and a thriving local art and crafts community. 

From 25th January to 17th February you can experience an art exhibition like no other.  The Headland Sculpture on the Gulf biennial arts festival displays 30 large-scale sculptures along a stunning coastal walking path.
